Why the GMACF Matters

GMACF – or, Greater Milan Area Community Foundation – was established in 2005 as a means to
help enhance the community of Milan. How, you ask? That’s a great question…

Through income earned on invested donations, GMACF has awarded more than $685,000 through college scholarships and community grants. Grants have been given to programs such as meal delivery services for seniors, breakfast for underprivileged youngsters struggling with math, funding for the high school robotics program, and a project to clear local waterways for canoeing, as well as many others. The best part? Every cent of scholarship and grant money stays in the Milan community.

GMACF provides a tax-exempt foundation for donations and serves as a respected steward for its assets. Those wishing to donate have many options of doing so, including setting up a named fund with their gift.

Donations can be directed to support the full range of local programs and can be any amount. How rewarding is it to donate toward enhancing the community in which you live?

Besides charitable contributions, a donation in the form of volunteer time is always welcome at GMACF. Helping with the Third Thursday booth, or joining one of the many committees is a great way to invest in the community. The Greater Milan Area Community Foundation has been serving our area for over 15 years and looks forward to many more – with your help. For more information, contact us at info@gmacf.org.

2020 GMACF Impact on the Community – A Record Year

The Greater Milan Area Community Foundation awarded nearly $80,000 in grants and scholarships in 2020 – a record year! This included over $58,000 awarded to nonprofit organizations and programs, and nearly $20,000 more in scholarships to Milan students.

2020 grants funded nearly 80% of the requests that poured in during the annual grant application this past summer, benefiting cultural, environmental, economic, and educational initiatives. Virtual music program supplies, social justice learning materials, new audiobooks at the Milan Library, and renovation efforts in the heart of downtown Milan are just some of the ways GMACF grant money will make an impact this year.

A special thank you to three community impact funds within the GMACF portfolio: The Fayne & Joanne McGovern Milan Youth Fund, the Armitage/Brainard Milan Beautification Endowment Fund, and the Donald E. Harkness Community Enrichment Endowment Fund. Together these funds extended the Foundation’s impact with additional grant funding benefiting school supply needs, historical asset maintenance, and community gardens.

Todd Schultz – Foundation VP and Grant Chairman – explained, “Since 2006 when the first grants were given, GMACF has taken its role of supporting these organizations and programs very seriously and will continue to do so for many years to come.”
