Greater Milan Area Community Foundation
Find out how you can make a difference!
If not for the excellent training, the excellent performance and the quick deployment of the AED by Officer Burgos, this individual may have lost his life; but instead his life was saved. Thanks to the community foundation for the donation that allowed us to equip our officers with these life-saving devices (AED) in our community.

The Greater Milan Area Community Foundation awarded over $55,000 to nonprofits in the 48160 zip code as a result of their 2020 grant season. Funds were made available to most of the requests that poured in during the annual open window of grant applications, with an equal spread between community support and development as well as school programming and youth-focused initiatives.
Virtual music program supplies, playground safety equipment, and social justice educational materials are just some of the ways grant money will support Milan children’s programs. The community-at-large will benefit from plans such as new audiobooks at the Milan Library and renovation efforts in Tolan Square, at the heart of downtown Milan.
A special thank you to three private fundholders within the GMACF umbrella: The Fayne & Joanne McGovern Milan Youth Fund, the Armitage/Brainard Milan Beautification Endowment Fund, and the Donald E. Harkness Community Enrichment Endowment Fund. Together they contributed more than $5000 toward grants this year, benefiting school supply needs, historical society maintenance, and an upcoming community garden space within the Aid in Milan organization.
Todd Schultz – trustee and grant chairman – explained, “Since 2006, the first year grants were given until now, 2020, the GMACF has taken its role of supporting these organizations and programs very seriously and will continue to do so for many years to come.” In fact, the GMACF has awarded over $680,000 in grants and scholarships since its inception.
The GMACF is proud to partner in these community plans that support the mission of enhancing Milan’s cultural, educational, economic, and environmental development. For more information on GMACF grant or scholarship programs, or to partner via donation, fund creation, or to volunteer, contact the GMACF at email@example.com. And they’re off! Who, you ask? The 15 Milan High School graduates that earned, and were awarded, Greater Milan Area Foundation (GMACF) scholarships this past spring. Back to school season means off to college and vocational school for these young adults, and the GMACF couldn’t be more proud to support them.
The GMACF awarded over $29,000 in scholarships to Milan High School seniors in 2019. These students completed the requirements outlined for each scholarship, and the monies awarded helps to ease the financial burden for those desiring further education.
There are currently 11 different types of scholarships available, each one with a specific application and criteria. Some awards target graduates pursuing specific careers while others are general. There are scholarships intended for university and those that can be used for community college or a vocational school.
Each scholarship is privately funded and then managed by the GMACF. Scholarship funds originate from interest earned on an invested amount, making each scholarship available annually. The GMACF would love to see more scholarships available for Milan area graduates. Residents interested in setting up a tax-deductible endowment for scholarship purposes can contact the GMACF at firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
Investing in Milan area students can have a lasting impact. Financially supporting their education journey is not only practical, it also conveys trust and confidence in the student. Students that return to place roots in the community that supported them can invest in the area in a personal way. The potential for a cyclical benefit is genuine and exciting.
