10th Annual Gala Coming Up!

2015 Emcee, Ashlee Baracy of WDIV-TV and 2008 Miss Michigan The Greater Milan Area Community Foundation is excited to announce our annual gala. This year GMACF will be celebrating 10 years of support through grants to local non-profits and scholarships to graduating seniors of Milan High School. This fundraiser is the largest fundraising event for the foundation, yielding over $45,000 last year with 240 guests. In this economy with increased need for local services and programs, the foundation needs your help to support as many of these worthwhile programs as possible. The foundation recently announced that in 2014 alone it has given over $42,000 in grants to non-profits in the Milan area, along with over $12,800 in scholarships to graduating seniors at Milan High School. A complete list of projects funded in 2014 can be found online at www.gmacf.org, but include a parent and child program, senior independent living support, youth sport program and a community beautification project. The gala committee is excited to welcome Ashlee Baracy to emcee this year’s event. You may recognize Ms. Baracy from her morning traffic reports on WDIV-TV Local 4. She was crowned Miss Michigan in 2008 and is an advocate for breast cancer awareness and education. The 2015 event will feature a live auction, silent auction, dinner, dance, cash bar, and live music. This year we will feature local auctioneer Brad Neuhart, who is experienced in non-profit charity auctions. The gala committee is excited for the event to return to Kensington Court for the third year, “This facility has a great reputation for hosting First Class events, and allows the foundation to decrease cost and labor with staff and supplies on-site.” according to GMACF President Chris Wetzler. This year promises to once again have exciting auction items. We need your help to make this year’s event an even greater success. Event sponsorships are currently available. We are also seeking donations for the auctions, both live and silent. The GMACF appreciates all of our sponsors and donors, and they will receive recognition for their support. Tickets are currently available for $68, along with table sponsorship opportunities. For more information on donations, sponsorships, or tickets for the event please contact Michael Armitage at 734-474-1574 or any GMACF board member. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.gmacf.org (look for the gala link at the top left of the page). You may also email the committee at gala@gmacf.org for additional information. Tickets include the meal, Hors d\\\'oeuvres, and complementary wine. The concept of a community foundation was first discussed in 2003 when three longtime Milan residents discovered they had a common vision. Soon they recruited a volunteer exploratory committee from the community to look at the feasibility of establishing such a charity. After months of discussion the committee decided unanimously to move forward with the project and a search for an existing partner began. In February 2005, during a meeting in Milan’s historic Old Fire Barn, an affiliate agreement with the Community Foundation of Monroe County was signed and the Greater Milan Area Community Foundation became a reality. Since then, over $229,000 has been distributed into the Milan Community through grants and $78,000 in scholarships.
